Bill Jamieson

Bill was Executive Editor of The Scotsman for 11 years, regularly writing about finance, economics, politics and current affairs. He was also the economics columnist for sister title Scotland on Sunday and prior to that was economics editor of The Sunday Telegraph for seven years.  He will be in conversation with Professor Susan Deacon CBE discussing ‘The Future of Scotland – where to from here?’ at the conference which will be followed by Q & A.

Bill has been a regular contributor to the Spectator Business magazine and City AM and frequently commentates on business and economics affairs for BBC Scotland.

In 2009 he won both Business Journalist of the Year and Journalist of the Year at the Scottish Press Awards. He collected Campaign of the Year Award for The Scotsman for its series of articles on the Lloyds-HBOS merger.  Bill’s books on economics and politics include An Illustrated Guide to the British Economy and Scotland’s Ten Tomorrows.

Since stepping down from The Scotsman, which he continues to write for, he has established Scott-Buzz, the one-stop business news website aiming to help business enterprise and the SME sector. Scot-Buzz is currently in the process of migrating to Facebook and will be back by popular demand shortly.

Bill is an accomplished performer on business and investment platforms and speaks with passion and humour on the major business and political issues of the day. He is a passionate advocate of the positive overall economic effects of championing entrepreneurs and why regulation and risk aversion will damage this.

Bill is a regular supporter of WeDO Scotland and has spoken at our Conference twice in the past, as well as chairing our IndyRef Breakfast in May 2014 and our Post-Brexit Breakfast in July 2016.
