Our Networking Breakfasts launched in February 2022 and are a key monthly event in the Scottish business calendar, taking place in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. They are open events where both members of WeDO and non-members are welcome. Offering a fantastic opportunity to spend a full hour networking, we alternate each month between an entrepreneurial speaker who will share their journey (including challenges faced – no rose tinted glasses overviews!) and topic based, where the speaker will share their expertise and tips on a specific subject. Places are limited to 50 to enable effective networking and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Please note that tickets must be booked in advance and will not be available on the door.
For our final Edinburgh Breakfast of 2023, we’re delighted to be welcoming Hannah Campbell of TaxAssist Accountants who was named one of 100 Female Entrepreneurs To Watch in Scotland by Business Women Scotland. Hannah will be sharing with us her business journey to date, working her way from Practice Manager through building her shareholding, culminating in a management buy out of one of the biggest TaxAssist franchise in the UK. A firm believer that University is not the only route to success and having faced various challenges as a young woman in business, Hannah’s insights are pragmatic and demonstrate her resilience. She will also be sharing her experiences of running a franchise business.
ABOUT HANNAH
Hannah is the owner of one of the biggest TaxAssist Accountants franchises in the UK, supporting over 1,100 small business owners and taxpayers from four shop front locations across Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian. Hannah became the sole owner of the business in September 2023 following completion of a Management Buy Out.
Passionate about helping others, not just small businesses but her team and the wider community, Hannah also sits on the board of the charity Cash for Kids, who focus on supporting disadvantaged children across Edinburgh, The Lothians, Fife and Falkirk.
BACKGROUND
Hannah began her career at an IT company as an admin assistant straight from high school and after a few months was offered a bookkeeping course, which went on to lead to professional accountancy exams. Hannah progressed with this company over six years through various roles, ending up as Assistant Accounting Manager for EMEA, but was made redundant in 2014 following the company’s acquisition by Dell.
After leaving Dell, Hannah joined TaxAssist Accountants as Assistant Practice Manager. In 2015 discussions started regarding the possibility of a Management Buy Out and the first stage of this was completed in 2016 when Hannah became Partner and 24% shareholder in the business.
There legal contracts included an option to purchase the rest of the business at the same share price as the initial purchase, meaning that Hannah would not end up paying for any further growth created in the business.
As part of their agreement, the founder of the business took a step back at this stage and Hannah took on the role of managing Partner, responsible for all day-to-day operations as well as strategic decisions for the business. In July 2020 Hannah doubled her shareholding to 48%.
The final stage of the Management Buy Out was started in 2022 but became a very protracted process, not helped by a period of economic uncertainty and rising inflation and interest rates when trying to secure lending from the bank. Thanks to a lot of tenacity, the deal was completed in September 2023.

TICKET PRICE
The ticket price of £21 + VAT for members and £26 + VAT for non-members. The ticket price includes tea/coffee and a bacon roll or pastries. Please select your choice when booking your ticket.
A VAT invoice will be issued once you have booked your ticket. Please note that ticket sales end at 2pm on Tuesday 21st November.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Tickets can be cancelled and refunded by emailing [email protected]. We regret that any tickets cancelled after 2pm on Thursday 16th November will not be applicable for refunds for any reason. Tickets can be transferred to a different name until Tuesday 21st November at 3pm by emailing [email protected]
