We’re delighted to be welcoming Gordon Wilson as guest speaker at our October Supper Club.  Gordon is co-founder and Managing Director of Corporate WeDO members, Carbon Financial Partners, a financial planning and investment business which began trading in June 2011. Carbon has offices in Aberdeen, Perth, Glasgow, Edinburgh and London. The team of 43, includes 13 financial planners.

I co-founded Carbon and since that day in 2011 I have tried to make Carbon into the best business it can be.

The starting point is openness and honesty and this sometimes involves being direct. This manifests itself into the very best advice for clients. We are completely honest, we tell clients like it is, we do not create false expectations and we stand behind our advice. Our advice is always first and foremost in the clients’ interest.

Fairness is also important to me and that is reflected in how we charge for advice. We are not the cheapest, nor the most expensive; we charge a fair price which is demonstrated through the clear value we add and create. If we can’t add significant value, there is no fee to pay.”

Gordon is a Chartered Financial Planner. He is passionate about openness and transparency and the benefits it brings to clients and businesses alike. A strong advocate of the value of financial planning, Gordon runs an evidence based business where challenge, debate, teamwork and personal development are all strongly supported and encouraged.

Gordon has spoken at seminars and conferences at home and abroad on how to manage and grow ‘new model’ adviser businesses.

Carbon strives to be the very best business it can be, and has quickly achieved national recognition through multiple Award wins including:

  • Chartered Financial Planners of the Year 2015
  • Gold Standard for Independent Financial Advice 2013 – 2021
  • CISI Recognising Excellence Award Finalist 2013, 2014 and 2015
  • Professional Adviser – Adviser Firm of the Year (UK) 2015.

In addition to his day job, Gordon is also a Director of the professional body for the financial planning profession in the UK, the Personal Finance Society.

Prior to Carbon, Gordon was MD and owner of Perth based Thomson Shepherd which was sold in 2008 to Skipton Building Society. Thomson Shepherd was founded in 1999 and grew by organic growth and acquisition.

He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO).   He is also a High Constable of Perth, where he lives with his wife Aileen, daughter Hannah, sons Finlay and Forbes, West Highland Terrier, Flora and Luther the Pug.

In his spare time, Gordon is a keen golfer, fisherman, skier, cyclist, dog walker and rugby fan.

Our Member Supper Clubs are participative, relaxing evenings enjoying good conversations, enabling members to get to know one another whilst hearing from inspirational speaker.  In Edinburgh, they are held in the private dining room of the 6th floor 1820 Rooftop Bar at the Johnnie Walker Princes Street with breathtaking views of the city and access to the outdoor roof terrace.

Places are strictly limited to 14 people with 10 tickets available for members on a first come first served basis.  By keeping these events intimate, we ensure there are plenty of opportunity to ask questions as well as an open forum where all attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the emerging themes from the speaker as well as their own experiences.  Shared experiences are at the heart of WeDO, ‘individually we can be successful, together we can be extraordinary’ and Supper Clubs give us the opportunity to do just that!
