OPEN TO MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS

Our Networking Breakfasts are popular events which give attendees the opportunity for high quality networking for a full hour, as well as hear an inspiring entrepreneurial journey or from a relevant topic expert.  Welcoming, beneficial, fun and outstanding networking opportunities is how guests describe our Breakfasts which take place monthly in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

After the fantastic feedback from our Glasgow Breakfast last week with speaker Joe Gibson, founder and Managing Director of Gibson Robotics , we’re delighted to be welcoming him back to speak at this Edinburgh Breakfast.  Joe is an outstanding young entrepreneur, having founded Gibson Robotics whilst still a student at the University of Strathclyde, where he studied Electronic & Electrical Engineering.  He has had an absolute rollercoaster of an entrepreneurial journey.  His experience with the University Air Squadron (Royal Air Force), BAE Systems, and as an advisor to a FTSE100 company has helped propel his counter-drone business forward, but hasn’t shielded him from the challenges of building your own business from scratch.  Join us to hear from this engaging and impressive young entrepreneur who is a fantastic example of the younger generation in the Scottish tech entrepreneurial landscape.

ABOUT JOE

© Stewart Attwood Photography 2022.

Joe founded Gibson Robotics in his bachelor’s final year with the expectation of turning it into a Masters project.  Traction in the business picked up, resulting in multiple Award wins including the UK STEM Awards in 2017, a Bright Sparks Award in 2019 and being recognised as a Royal Academy of Engineering Leaders Scholar.  With support from the University of Strathclyde, he took the brave decision to withdraw from the Masters programme to work full-time in the business. Joe was subsequently successful in raising significant investment led by Gabriel Investment Syndicate, match-funded by Scottish Enterprise, and followed by the University of Strathclyde in addition to two private investors.

Joe has now grown the team to 7 and as well as an office, they now have a workshop, resulting in accelerating the technology development at a significant pace.

Joe joined WeDO having been selected as one of the leading businesses with significant growth potential at the Scottish Institute for Enterprise and we have consistently been impressed with his success, innovation and tenacity in the face of the challenges he has faced along the way.

ABOUT GIBSON ROBOTICS

Gibson Robotics is a drone technology business with a beachhead market, which is solving problems in the security sector.  Its’ autonomous eye in the sky safeguards sites from both aerial and ground threats. It is developing Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) capable of autonomously patrolling sites and detecting a variety of objects.  The future skies will be filled with UAS, often referred to as ‘drones’, and Gibson Robotics is leading the way with UAS for the security sector, alongside transferring the technology into other sectors to serve the wider commercial markets.

Systems operate 24/7 alert customers to any ground or aerial threats, then map, track and record their activity, as well as, when necessary, intercepting and capturing aerial threats.  Backed by industry-leading expertise, the technology has sophisticated cameras, sensors and intelligent software to deliver real-time insights to physical security without the need to upskill teams into pilots.

Their easy-to-use systems provide precise data and insights, enables rapid decision-making and empowers security personnel. These systems are ideal for the protection of critical infrastructure, oil & gas facilities, large stadiums, wide area security, as well as assisting Police and Search And Rescue teams during the day or night and responding to aerial threats.
