John has been working with growth companies for over 25 years – as adviser, as leadership team member, as investor, as non-executive chairman, as peer learning specialist and as programme director of the ScaleUp Institute endorsed Growth Advantage Programme at Strathclyde Business School.

In this interactive session, John will share key lessons from his original Local Heroes research and subsequent direct personal experience; highlight the practical things you can do as the leader of a growth company to drive growth; explore the common pitfalls of growth and how to avoid them and identify the resources that you can access to support your growth ambitions.

Professor John Anderson, CA, MBA, D Univ, is a well-known specialist in entrepreneurship and growth in Scotland and brings considerable experience of emerging and high growth companies to his role as Head of SME Engagement at Strathclyde Business School where he acts as Programme Director on the ScaleUp Institute endorsed Growth Advantage Programme

Former Chief Executive of The Entrepreneurial Exchange, John was a shareholding director of a young venture backed technology company engaged in the design, manufacture and distribution of laboratory equipment and co-founded a company that provided pre-hospital emergency care and healthcare industry training.  As a Chartered Accountant in professional practice, he worked with many of Scotland’s most exciting growth companies after returning to Scotland from Chicago in 1989.

Now an experienced non-executive chairman and director in growing businesses, from early stage angel backed ventures to rapid growth venture capital backed companies and multi-generation family businesses, John is a regular commentator on issues facing emerging and high growth companies and has worked extensively with the leaders of growth companies, sharing experiences of the realities of scaling up.
