Edinburgh June Networking Breakfast – David Duke MBE – CEO of Street Soccer Scotland

June LinkedIn Networking Breakfast
23 June 2022
8:30 am - 10:00 am
Our Networking Breakfasts launched in February 2022 and are proving to be a key monthly event in the Scottish business calendar. They are open events where both members of WeDO and non-members are welcome. Offering a fantastic opportunity to spend a full hour networking, we alternate each month between an entrepreneurial speaker who will share their journey (including challenges faced – no rose tinted glasses overviews!) and topic based, where the speaker will share their expertise and tips on a specific subject. Places are limited to 50 to enable effective networking and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Please note that tickets must be booked in advance and will not be available on the door.
This month, we’re delighted to be welcoming David Duke MBE, founder and CEO of Street Soccer Scotland and Street Soccer London, one of the most inspiring social entrepreneurs in Scotland who never fails to captivate and engage audiences with his down-to-earth, honest and thought-provoking conversations.
THE SPEAKER
A well-known face and voice in his sector and beyond, he has grown to be widely admired for his humility, strategic problem solving, social entrepreneurship and inspirational personality.
As founder and CEO of Street Soccer Scotland and Street Soccer London, non-profit Social Enterprises that use football to help create positive change in the lives of socially disadvantaged adults and young people, David has most recently set up Change Centre Scotland, a sport and education centre with a vision to tackling isolation, homelessness, supporting mental health and well-being by creating on site personal development and self management support.
David works closely with Governments, athletes, NGO’s and social enterprises, as well as public and private corporations and leading global entrepreneurs, all who hold similar values and the same goal of improving the lives of those who face society’s biggest challenges.
With lived experienced of the challenges that face the people that his organisations work with and help on a daily basis, this makes him one of the best placed people to lead, advise and deliver on Social Inclusion programmes that use sport as a vehicle for change.
Alongside his own social enterprises, David regularly sits on Government task forces and advisory groups, is an Advisory Board Member for UNICEF (Scotland) and also a advisor to AR26 Charity, founded by Scotland Captain and Liverpool FC star, Andy Robertson.
He is a regular contributor at international forums and global events such as TEDx, Beyond Sport Global Summit, COP26 and Social Enterprise World Forum.
David was named The Sunday Times ‘Change Maker’ of the Year and a CNN Hero in 2016. In 2019, he wrote and delivered Scotland’s New Year message for BBC1 Scotland. He has been recognised by Glasgow Caledonian University and Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret University, both awarding him Honorary Doctorates for his considerable societal contributions. Further to these achievements, David was awarded an MBE in the 2018 New Years Honours List.
He holds dear his love for football, live music, running and ensuring the most excluded in society have a voice and access to whatever support and opportunity needed to help build confidence, bring hope and ensure everyone gets a fair chance.
Anyone with an interest in business who is looking for an enjoyable networking event! Unlike many speaker events, there is a full hour allocated to networking which has been missed by so many during the pandemic.
