SPEAKER: JIM RAE OF DOCS24

Jim Rae has worked in document and information management for nearly 30 years in a variety of small to global businesses.  He is a former professional footballer and has played in the Scotland Senior team for the last 7 years.  He will captain Scotland at this year’s senior World Cup, which will be held in Thailand in June.

As every business owner knows, there are challenges faced on our entrepreneurial journeys, and the biggest one Jim faced was taking a business from administration to creating a renowned, international company with offices in Edinburgh and Greenville in the USA

Jim launched Docs24 in November 2013 and turned his previous business model of a traditional company to one driven by technology.  Today, Docs24 is the most agile, marketing, business content and brand asset platform delivering simple, efficient, tailored and controlled management of clients’ businesses and brands.  The Docs24 technology platform streamlines the management of clients’ marketing, content and brand assets to reduce inefficiency and unproductive time.

Working with some of the largest blue-chip companies across the globe, within financial services, home improvements, pharmaceutical, professional services and retail, Docs24’s biggest client is the largest global clinical trials company with revenues of £15 billion.

Jim attributes much of the success of Docs24 to lessons he learnt from going through the administration process, as well as never being afraid to take risks

In the USA, no entrepreneur is scared of failure, in fact they embrace it.  I’m looking forward to sharing some of the lessons I’ve learnt as well as how we have built Docs24 to be a global business with a lean team.  The development and growth of Docs24 is down to our people and our culture – a culture which wasn’t created by me, but by everyone in the company.

Before building his business career, Jim played professional football, starting at the age of 16 with Dundee FC where he remained for 3 years during which time they won the Reserve League Cup in 1986.  He subsequently had 2 spells at Arbroath and 1 at Cowdenbeath before finishing his playing career at Spartans.  He captained Spartans culminating in their famous Scottish Cup run against Premier League Livingston.

Jim continues to play charity games for Hearts Legends and coached Coldstream, Spartans and Lothian Thistle. The Senior Football Association of Thailand started the Seniors World Cup 13 years ago to help support children orphaned in the wake of the tsunami.

“Whether it was during my professional playing career or most recently playing and captaining the Scotland Seniors World Cup team, I’ve always enjoyed incorporating lessons learnt on the pitch to business.  The success of any business or team is down to its’ people and I look forward to sharing my experiences at the WeDO Supper Club.”

Join us to hear Jim’s down-to-earth & honest story and how the culture and values created by his team has been adopted and rolled out in one of Scotland’s leading financial services companies.
