Our Supper Clubs are one of our most popular events and always sell out every month.  They’re informal, relaxed evenings and are the perfect mix of inspiration, good food and great conversations.  They give members the best opportunity to get to know their fellow members, meeting those they’ve not met and catching up with those they do. Watch the video at the foot of this page to find our what some of the attendees said about one of our 2022 Edinburgh Supper Clubs.

This month, we’re delighted to be welcoming Richard Simpson joint Managing Director of renowned global brand agency Tayburn.  Richard is also a member of the WeDO Executive Team.  A highly engaging speaker, Richard will be sharing with us his journey from employee to participating in a management buyout to become co-owner and joint Managing Director in 2015.  He’ll also be discussing the challenges he’s faced running a business and his thoughts on marketing in 2023.

Richard joined Tayburn in 2008 as Head of Business Development before becoming Marketing Director 18 months later.  He is accountable for Tayburn’s sustainable profitable growth and is passionate about creating a remarkable environment for their people to do remarkable work for their clients.

“There can be a tendency for brands, especially in tech, to focus on product features and benefits in pursuit of the most effective product/market fit however, if every brand in the category talks about itself in this way not only is there little in the way of differentiation for the customer, there is a lack of emotional connection established. And it’s emotional connections between brands and their customers that can provide the rocket fuel for growth.”

Richard is also an Investor and Advisor at Riixo® – creators of the worlds first sport and injury recovery cuff.

He is a passionate advocate of balancing mindset and sport, he took up Crossfit training in 2016 which he believes has transformed not just his fitness but also the benefits it brings to his mindset in business.  He is a Coach and affiliate owner of Go Train East Rocks which runs a wide variety of fitness training sessions, including Crossfit, in East Lothian – and always outdoors regardless of the weather.

With offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Istanbul, Tayburn was one of the first brand agencies to make it big north of London.  Tayburn believe brands that are clear on what they stand for, continually innovate and know how to deliver a great customer experience, are better positioned to grow and create loyal customers.  They transform brands through storytelling and digital experiences – marrying insight, storytelling, creativity and technology.  All delivered by a team of people who genuinely care.  They work with a wide range of industry sectors, to name just a few:

  • Creating the brand fame for House of Boë
  • Shaping the brand experience for Apex Hotels
  • Embracing change with Bravura
  • Inspiring a global traveller audience with Skyscanner
  • Building a world-class matchday centre for Scottish Rugby
  • Driving digital sales for J.G. Thomson
  • Raising a glass to 25 years of Heineken
  • Enlightened thinking for Brodies
  • Rolling out a new global brand system for Princes
  • Creating impactful email campaigns for animal lovers everywhere at ZSL | London Zoo

In Edinburgh, they are held in the private dining room of the 6th floor 1820 Rooftop Bar at the Johnnie Walker Princes Street with breathtaking views of the city and access to the outdoor roof terrace.

Places are strictly limited to 14 people with tickets available for members on a first come first served basis.  By keeping these events intimate, we ensure there are plenty of opportunity to ask questions as well as an open forum where all attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the emerging themes from the speaker as well as their own experiences.  Shared experiences are at the heart of WeDO, ‘individually we can be successful, together we can be extraordinary’ and Supper Clubs give us the opportunity to do just that!
