Our members LendingCrowd, along with Daily Business, are co-hosting a fantastic event in Edinburgh on the 21st of April from 8:30am – 12:30pm. ?Entitled ‘Financing the Future: ?How can we grow Scottish brands and businesses?’, this will be Hugh Aitken, the new CBI Scotland Director’s first ever speech in his new role. ?He will set out the ‘big picture challenges’ facing firms attempting to raise finance and to grow the Scottish economy. Also, the event will focus on the ?great potential? for alternative finance in Scotland, showcasing how one Scottish company used this form of funding to invest in product development.

Hugh Aitken will be joined by a number of speakers addressing the issue of fund-raising for growth firms and building brands in Scotland. Other confirmed speakers include Stuart Lunn, WeDO member and chief executive of ?LendingCrowd, Simon Farrell, managing director of branding company Tayburn, and Paul Farley, chief executive of Tag Games.

What are the potential average returns from crowdlending? Which kind of businesses can you invest in? The summit will shed light on these burning questions and many more as the crowdlending trend gains momentum in Scotland. ?According to research organisation, Nesta, the average interest rate from a pool of 3000 loans was 8.8%. ?The UK alternative finance sector is expected to be worth ?4.4bn by the end of 2015, the research added.

Match this with the appetite for loans for businesses: some 77% of Scottish businesses in 2014 stated that access to finance was an obstacle to their success of their business, reports Scottish Government research.

Terry Murden, editor and director of Daily Business, said:

“It is a great coup for Daily Business and LendingCrowd to secure Mr Aitken as a speaker at our inaugural public event. I have known Hugh for some time and am sure he will be a great draw for the business community.”

Stuart Lunn, CEO of LendingCrowd added:

“We are pleased to co-host the event with Daily Business through our inaugural summit. ?Accessing finance and growing brands has never been more important for small businesses in Scotland and the wider UK. We have arranged an engaging line up of speakers whom we expect will provoke thoughtful and lively discussion among the delegates present.”

The event is taking place at Burness Paull, CB Plaza, Lothian Road, Edinburgh, EH3 9WJ and you can register for the event HERE.
