What was your first job after leaving school/further education?
I became the manager of a licensed premises specialising in real ale and whisky.
When did you start your work in CSR what prompted you to do it?
I joined Aberlour in July 2012 after working in the Corporate Fundraising team at Barnardo?s Scotland. I?ve always enjoyed organising and participating in charity events and I find the shifting landscape of fundraising to be an exciting workplace day to day.
What are the main challenges facing charities?
Every company?s CSR strategy is unique and requires careful monitoring to ensure that all aspects of a charity partnership are fulfilled. As you can imagine, it is particularly challenging to gain financial support for an organisation in a time of recession. It?s also difficult, in such a competitive and bustling third sector, to raise awareness an organisation?s vital work in a cost-effective way.
How do companies benefit from working with a charity?
We operate a variety of bespoke partnerships with our community and corporate partners. We?re dedicated to supporting companies in achieving their social responsibility targets while providing fulfilling volunteering challenges and excellent opportunities to fundraise for a great cause.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to set up their own business?
Never overlook the advantages of addressing corporate social responsibility. Affiliation with a charity partner can set you aside from your competitor.
Tell us something about you that isn’t commonly known.
I?ve played golf since I was 5yrs old?
And finally, why did you join WeDO?
To represent the network?s official charity partner for 2012-13. I?d be delighted to meet with any WeDo members to discuss the benefits of a CSR strategy within your businesses and how best you can work with a charity partner to boost your business? profile.
