What was your first job after leaving school/further education?

I did a YTS Scheme in Birmingham for a year or so then I started as a Bell Hop at what was the Swallow Hotel Birmingham.

When did you start your business & what prompted you to do it?

2009 and was sick of working for the man, the Industry was struggling as was the company I worked for so I took a voluntary redundancy and my business partner Alex and I decided let’s go it alone and then we are masters of our own destiny !

What did you find most challenging at the beginning?

Managing Growth and new Sales, we grew at a tremendous rate at the beginning and then we almost stood still a little even though we invested in a sales team. New business is tough.

Who did you ask for advice & why did you choose them?

Family, friends, industry folk? no real mentor as such just a broad range of industry folk, kind of sense checking our vision with people in the know.

How did you fund your business?

We started with nothing, peddled hard and harder still?. I had a 6 week redundancy package and a very understanding wife.

We choose to grow organically vs investment and we wanted to ensure we remained 100% at the helm. It?s a little easier as we are a broker of services and we had some shared efficiencies with my business partners portfolio of contracts/infrastructure.

What would you do differently now looking back?

Not invest in a sales team and do it myself.

Reflect more and trust more of my initial instincts.

Delegate more to others.

What or who has helped you to grow your business the most?

Alex and I are lucky we have amazing wives who have supported us. Our customers are loyal and our suppliers are keen to work with us as our ethics are good.

What have been the biggest challenges you’ve faced?

New Business without a doubt, even when it?s a no brainer people hate the pain of change.

What are the future plans for your business?

Concentrate on global domination, lol?. Seriously focus on our core services and grow these as we are a truly limitless business.? Concentrate on our Scottish incoming DMC and establish this as soon as possible. Our UK based global event management continues to contribute positively so we won’t take our eye of this ball either.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to set up their own business?

If you believe it, do it?. You will always regret not trying and the worst case scenario is you can always revert back to your core skill set and get a job?

Tell us something about you that isn’t commonly known.

I am a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, I am scared of Geese and have never had a cup of coffee in my life? there’s 3 for you !
