WeDO member Nicole Scott-McKie founded MTX Golf during the COVID-19 lockdown.  Nicole is an ex-hockey internationalist who wanted to create tournaments, either exclusively for female golfers, or where female golfers were well represented.to provide a series of Doddie Drive events throughout Scotland raising awareness and funds for our charity partner, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, as well as providing a platform for amateur female golfers to play competitively. Their long term goal is to increase the number of female golfers at grass roots level to help develop a new generation of golfers.

Nicole always wanted to raise funds for a charity which supported those with motor neurone disease, a disease which had affected her own loved ones in the past. The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was a natural fit. The desire to support the foundation was the driving force behind the creation of the Doddie Drive.  Commenting on the event, Nicole said:

“We are delighted to launch our second tournament for 2021, in addition to our women-only event taking place in September.  The Doddie Drive is set to be a memorable event, with the first one playing on the fantastic Dumbarnie Links and the second on the Duke’s course in St Andrews.

We already have four further tournaments planned for 2022, all of which have a charity element. We hope that, through our tournaments, we will raise significant funds to support the vital work of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, both for medical research, as well as supporting those affected by the cruel disease.

One of the founding principles of MTX Golf is to encourage more women to play golf and I hope, by making this event a 50:50 female: male split, this ensures women will be well represented. We look forward to welcoming pairs be it couples, father/daughters, business associates etc, to what promises to be a unique and entertaining weekend.”

Following the Doddie Drive event, the Fifer Cup will be held from 22-27 September. This event is much more of an escape, for those wanting something more competitive than a yoga break. Allowing female golfers to make up for all that golf they might not have managed to play in the last year, and get a break with friends of family members. Participants will stay five nights at the Old Course Hotel, play four days of golf on four different courses, culminating in a fundraising dinner at the hotel where there will be a focus again on raising funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. A luxury escape for amateur, female golfers. Originally aimed at bringing tourists into Scotland, however, due to COVID this year might be the year of Staycation!  To find out more click HERE
