My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is our nominated charity & we are absolutely delighted to be partnering with them both to fundraise & to help raise awareness of the Foundation & Motor Neuron Disease.

Doddie Weir OBE is one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities.  He earned 61 caps for Scotland during a successful playing career.

Doddie is now facing his biggest challenge.  In June 2017, he revealed he was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease.  From the outset, Doddie has been driven to help fellow sufferers & seek ways to further research into this, as yet, incurable disease.

In November 2017, Doddie & his trustees launched registered charity My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.  Its aims are simple:

  • To raise funds to aid research into the causes of MND and investigate potential cures.
  • To make grants available to individuals suffering from MND, to enable them to live as fulfilled a life as possible.

“It is frustrating that there has been so little progress over the last two decades.  I want to push the need for research into MND further up the agenda.  We may be too late in finding something that can help me, but I am committed to doing everything I can to help find a cure.” Doddie Weir

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation has to date committed £2.4 million towards research to help fund a cure for Motor Neuron Disease. The trustees have agreed a series of grant awards to MND research projects at centres of excellence across the UK.

“I am delighted that we are making such an important contribution to vital research work. I’d like to thank everyone who has made this possible, but especially the thousands of fund raisers who have given their time, energy and imagination to help us raise such significant funds. Our advisory panel has really helped steer our thinking and given us direction – we greatly appreciate their input.” Doddie Weir

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is also committed to helping those affected by Motor Neuron Disease and has given a total of £350,000 to MND Scotland and MND Association. This is distributed as grants on behalf of the foundation and helps pay for adaptations to homes and funds respite care for carers.

“To be told you have Motor Neuron Disease is devastating news. From the start, I wanted to do something to help people who were going through the same as me. We are committed to helping find a cure for this devastating disease but also helping people whose lives have been affected by MND.”  Doddie Weir
