We’re excited to report that our Chairman, Jim Rae, Chief Executive of Elevate Group has been selected, at the age of 42, to play for Scotland at the forthcoming Seniors World Cup Football Finals in June in Thailand.
Jim first kicked a football at the age of 3 and started playing professionally at the age of 16 with Dundee FC where he played at Left Back and Centre Back. ?He remained at Dundee for 3 years during which time they won the Reserve League Cup in 1986. ?He subsequently had 2 spells at Arbroath and 1 at Cowdenbeath before finishing his playing career at Spartans. ?He captained Spartans culminating in their famous Scottish Cup run against Premier League Livingston.
Jim moved into sales following on from his football career and having worked for Docuserve as Sales & Marketing Director and Managing Director, he led an MBO of the company which subsequently re-branded as Elevate in 2005. ?Under Jim’s leadership, Elevate?has grown to incorporate 4 companies under the Elevate Group umbrella, namely Elevate You, Home Passport, State of The Art Reproductions and Personalised You.
During this time he hasn’t totally hung up his football boots (in fact we know that he has just bought a new pair for the World Cup – in purple – we like to think it’s to keep his boots in the colour theme of the WeDO logo!) and has continued to play charity games for Hearts Legends ?He has also coached Coldstream, Spartans and Lothian Thistle so his passion for the game has remained.
Jim comments “It’s a great honour to have been selected to play for Scotland in the Seniors World Cup Final and I’m really looking forward to it. ?I’m also very much looking forward to the charity aspect of the event, each team member has been tasked with raising at least ??1,ooo in sponsorship.
This money will be donated to children who have been displaced by the Tsunami and will provide them with much needed clothes, books, toys, games, stationery, football strips and equipment required for school. ?Each country team will spend a day and a half with the children and I know it will be a heartwarming and hugely worthwhile opportunity to see how our donations will really make a difference to these children who have suffered so much misfortune and sadness.”
In true WeDO spirit, Elena Torres of Exec Air, who is also an Ambassador in the WeDO Executive Team, has arranged the flights for the Scotland team and managed to save them money on the cost of travel meaning that more money can subsequently be donated to the children.
Jim will be blogging from Bangkok on our blog and keeping us up-to-date with how Scotland fare as well as sharing his experiences of meeting the children displaced by the Tsunami. ?We would like to wish him and the rest of the Scottish team the very best of luck and look forward to hearing more.
