Job title: Founder
Where are you from? Helensburgh originally but Edinburgh is my adopted home.
Having a journalist mother who used to take me to some of her interviews with successful business women during school holidays & a father who ran his own building company I always wanted my own business with a very definite proviso of doing so before the age of 30.
What’s been your biggest success in business to date?
Selling my sales & management training company 4 years after setting it up and of course working with the WeDO members and seeing their businesses flourish. Most recently, having co-authored ‘21st Century Networking‘ with David Sole OBE, published by Elliott & Thomson.
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever been given?
Remain positive, work hard, overcome adversity, focus on your plan & you can achieve whatever you want.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most?
All of our members & our Exec team… each & every one of them have great businesses & spending time with them inspires me on a daily basis.
Which 3 qualities do you think are most important to have as an entrepreneur?
Drive, passion and tenacity to keep going when things get tough.
What business tool could you not live without?
My iPhone, iPad & numerous apps.
Why did you decide to start WeDO?
I’ve always been a big advocate of networking since I started my career. It has been of huge benefit to me over the years and having had my own businesses for many years, I recognised that regardless of the size of your team, being a business owner can sometimes be lonely. I wanted to create a membership organisation which would enable peer-to-peer learning and the sharing of knowledge, ideas & experiences. Since I’m allergic to egos, we decided to make it membership by invitation or referral to ensure that all of the members are like-minded & striving towards the same goals.
