Job title: CEO
Where are you from? Edinburgh
What made you decide to start your own business?
I had always wanted to eventually run my own business and when I started to identify gaps in the market and the potential opportunities that lay ahead as well as the encouraging push from my friend Shaun Liddle I decided to do so.
What’s been your biggest success in business to date?
Claymore has successfully evolved at such a rapid rate over a short period of time over the past few years. Until now I would say my biggest success has to be the development of Claymore Global Solutions; a parent company created this year to oversee all operative companies under the Claymore banner due to such expansion.
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever been given?
?What could possibly go wrong?? Both my life and business motto.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most?
You think it would be quite easy to take someone from the top of your head and class them as your most inspired entrepreneur. Yet knowing so many inspirational people who come in various forms and in their own rights makes it very difficult!
However, if I had to name one who really does inspire me and a person I have known for over 30 years of is my good friend and business partner Thomas Henderson (Tam). One of the closest people to me with regard to my business, he carries a continuous ?nothing will stop me? attitude and genuinely views nothing in business as impossible.
Which 3 qualities do you think are most important to have as an entrepreneur?
As always, I stand by what I believe to be the most important elements in business: trust, honesty and loyalty.
What business tool could you not live without?
A major aspect of my company?s development stems from the fact I conduct the majority of my business through face-to-face communication; making the effort to travel wherever is needed to meet the clients and associates in person. As a global company, my colleagues and I are required to travel very frequently. It is crucial that I have my phone to maintain constant contact with both staff and clients.
What do you enjoy most about providing the support function for WeDO?
I view WeDO as a significant support & collaboration organisation with an abundance of amazing entrepreneurial spirit. I am honoured to have the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals and hope to add value and offer as much support as I can to anyone attempting to run their own business.
