Company: Staff Style
Job title: Style Guru
Where are you from? Edinburgh
What made you decide to start your own business?
I love clothes, they are my passion. I never understand why people choose to wear clothes that do nothing for them. When you work for an organisation that provides you with a ‘uniform’ quite often what is provided is just awful! The uniform market is saturated with really bad quality and styling and I wanted to do something about that. Staff are the biggest asset in any business, and I am a great believer that if you look and feel good, you perform better.
What’s been your biggest success in business to date?
Coming out of the last recession, recovering and taking a different and new approach to business. I’m also hugely proud of my forthcoming publishing deal with my first children’s book ‘Tzu Kingdom’.
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever been given?
Go with your gut instinct.
Which entrepreneur inspires you the most?
The designer Paul Smith. His story inspires me and his attitude to life in general is refreshing. A hugely successful individual who has achieved global success but remains true to his roots. He’s a true gentleman and I like that!
Which 3 qualities do you think are most important to have as an entrepreneur?
Creativity, ability to take risks, and to be totally in love with what you do.
What business tool could you not live without?
My iPhone, in particular the maps!
What are you an Ambassador for WeDO Scotland?
I was an Ambassador in our Executive Team for over 2 years, before moving into the role of General Manager for just over 3 years. I am now an Ambassador again because I am passionate about business and recognise that being an entrepreneur can be lonely at times. Therefore, it’s great to be part of an organisation which supports business owners and leaders, giving them the opportunity to share their experiences. I love meeting people and the mutual sharing of knowledge.
