With the Scottish election on 7th May fast approaching, the decisions made in the months ahead will shape the economic environment in which Scotland’s businesses operate for years to come.

THE WHY

At a time when Scottish SMEs are navigating rising costs, labour pressures, taxation changes, economic uncertainty and the ongoing challenge of scaling and attracting investment, it has never been more important for the business community to hear directly from those seeking to govern.

THE HOW

We’re delighted to be bringing together politicians from all six main political parties for our highly anticipated Hustings Breakfast.  We believe the business community MUST be part of the conversation shaping Scotland’s future.  That’s why we’ve proudly hosted Hustings events for every Scottish and UK election since our founding in 2008 – creating a platform where entrepreneurs and business leaders can engage directly with decision-makers and policymakers.

THE WHAT

Each party will have a strictly time-limited opportunity to present the key commitments from their manifestos relating specifically to business and the economy, outlining how they intend to support entrepreneurs, SMEs and Scotland’s wider business ecosystem.

But this event isn’t about speeches, following the brief manifesto presentation, the floor opens to you, giving you a rare opportunity to put your questions directly to the politicians:  challenge policies, seek clarity on economic priorities and raise the real issues affecting Scottish businesses today.

From taxation and investment to skills, infrastructure, regulation and growth, this will be an open, honest and fast-paced discussion focused on the realities facing entrepreneurs and business leaders across Scotland.

THE PANEL CHAIR

The panel and discussions will be chaired by Michael Glackin, an award-winning journalist and highly respected political commentator.  A well kent face at WeDO, Michael chaired our last Hustings Breakfast in 2024 and left no politician any place to hide, nor to avoid answering the questions posed.  He’s well known for his sharp analysis, deep understanding of the political landscape and his ability to cut through the noise to get to the substance of the debate, always ensuring lively, balanced and insightful conversations happen.  He is also a regular on the Business & Economy Panel at our annual Conference.

THE WHO

This event consistently attracts entrepreneurs, founders, SME leaders, investors and senior decision-makers from across Scotland who want to understand what the political landscape means for their businesses and make their voices heard.
