Our Spotlight Dinner on April 22nd is one not to be missed! Our speaker for the evening is?Rod McMillan,?a business development and performance improvement specialist and an Ambassador in the WeDO Scotland Executive team. ?He was also on the judging panel for our 2014 Awards. Rod is?experienced in helping business owners and leaders with strategy, people, organisation structure and challenging commercial problems resolution. ?He will be sharing with us his experiences in business including his considerable experience of raising venture capital and floating a business on the London Stock Exchange. For those of you who haven’t met him before, he has a highly refreshing, humourous and down-to-earth approach to business not to mention having amassed a huge amount of experience of diverse industry sectors.

Starting his commercial life at Trust Houses Forte for 5 years, ?Rod then became a divisional Managing Director of a small PLC at the tender age of 27. With 3 co-directors he performed a Management Buy-Out of an electronic office supplies company, ISA International plc raising venture capital of ?4.5M to do so. ?ISA’s flotation on the full list of the London Stock Exchange followed 2 years later in 1987. ?He remained with ISA until 1992 having enjoyed the experience of running a plc but not reporting to the city!

For the last 20 years Rod has worked as an independent Non-Executive Director and?as a consultant to directors and owners of businesses across many different business sectors, from international electronics manufacturing to football schools to online health products.?Rod believes that business success can often be about having the right people doing the right things, sometimes easier said than done. Business leaders sometimes need an independent and experienced outsider’s view to help resolve challenging commercial situations. It can sometimes be necessary to be prepared to do ‘real work’ not just advise, and?he always encourages his clients to invite him to do so. Rod is a director of the City of Discovery Charity Concert Ltd ?and an active supporter of?Hope for Children.
